From August 8th to 11th, 2024, the Vietnam National University of Forestry in Hanoi hosted a highly impactful four-day intensive workshop on Training of Trainers (TOT) on Academic Writing and UAV Application in Forest Resources and Environmental Monitoring. This workshop was the final activity under the CLIDEV project framework “Strengthening Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development in Vietnam” funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. It brought together two lecturers and one post-graduate student from the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry for a transformative learning experience.
The workshop focused on two critical objectives:
1. Enhancing Academic Writing Skills:
Participants engaged in active training sessions designed to elevate their ability to write and publish in international scientific journals. Through discussion-based learning, they gained valuable insights into producing high-quality research articles and efficiently managing references using Endnote software.
2. Fostering Practical UAV Skills in Forestry and Environmental Monitoring:
The workshop also provided hands-on training in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology, a crucial tool for modern forest resource and environmental monitoring. Participants learned both fundamental and advanced UAV operational techniques, including imagery analysis using Agisoft Metashape and Pix4D, and detailed map production and tree crown delineation using QGIS. These skills are essential for applying cutting-edge technology in environmental monitoring and forest management.
During the workshop, participants had developed advanced competencies in both academic writing and UAV technology, empowering them to contribute more effectively to higher education in forestry. This TOT workshop also generated the fundamental background for all participants to continue refining their research capabilities, particularly in technology-driven monitoring of forest resources and environmental conditions.
The CLIDEV project remains committed to fostering sustainable development through education and capacity-building initiatives. This workshop is another step forward in equipping educators and researchers in Vietnam with the tools and knowledge necessary to address climate change challenges effectively. some photos of the training as follows:
